China launches the world's largest telescope In a qualitative leap in the world of technology and space science, China announced the opening of the world's largest radio telescope, which will be used in space research and the search for extraterrestrial life.

The Chinese news agency, Xinhua, stated that the size of the 500-meter-wide Fast telescope is equivalent to the size of 30 football fields. It is installed on a mountain peak in Guizhou Province, southwest China, and is known as the “eye of the sky.”

The agency added that the telescope had received national approval to begin operations.

For his part, Jiang Ping, chief engineer of the telescope, told the Chinese News Agency that the experimental operations have been reliable and stable so far, noting that the telescope's sensitivity is more than two and a half times that of the second largest telescope in the world.

The agency confirmed that the telescope has collected some valuable scientific data during the last period, and it is expected to help achieve some achievements in many areas.

It is noteworthy that this telescope was completed in 2016, and during the past four years, it has undergone corrections and tests.
