It is said in some legends that whoever witnesses this phenomenon changes his destiny for the better..except for legends..it is really worth watching.
A full understanding of the physical processes that lead to the different types of auroras is still incomplete, but the underlying cause involves the interaction of the solar wind with the magnetic field.

The aurora borealis is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena that occur on the face of the earth. They look like celestial mermaids who descended to the earth to give them some of their charm and splendor, or a group of fireworks that were designed with the utmost precision and creativity.

Since time immemorial, man has paid attention to it and tried hard to explain it. Many legends and myths have emerged about the reality of polar lights, until science was able to explain them and clarify their causes. Why does the phenomenon of the aurora borealis occur, how does it occur, and what is it? ∴ What is the aurora borealis?
imageThe aurora borealis, pole lights or polar dawn, are all names given to the lights that appear in the arctic region after sunset, to illuminate the sky again, so it looks like a painting drawn by the hands of the world's greatest artists, but the truth is that the main reason for these lights is the incoming rays From the sun to the earth, that is, it does not occur inside the earth but in the outer atmosphere, so it can be said that it is a wonderful astronomical phenomenon that attracts lovers of astronomy and the universe from all over the world to watch and follow it. These lights begin to appear half an hour after sunset, and sometimes they continue until they appear again, and sometimes they appear only before sunrise. The visible rays differ from time to time and even at the same time of appearance, the two rays do not match in shape and color no matter what happens, even if they take a similar pattern

Sometimes the lights appear in the form of rays of light resembling arrows rising to the sky, and sometimes they appear in the form of transparent color arcs that continue in the sky for half an hour before moving upwards, to be replaced by other arcs. ∴ Forms of the Northern Lights The aurora is characterized by two basic forms, the strip twilight, in which lights appear in the form of long arcs and ribbons in the sky, and the cloudy twilight, which is colored lights covering an entire area of the sky as clouds and transparent colored clouds. The twilight usually appears either in green, red, yellow or blue, while the rest of the colors appear when the twilight arcs mix, bends and light clouds appear. The bar form of the aurora usually covers a vast area of the sky extending for several thousand kilometers, while its width is several meters or hundreds of meters only. metres. After that, the radial beams start to cause pink radiation that extends for thousands of kilometers, and continues until the bar aurora activity ends, and its shape is scattered to form an irregular cloudy aurora.

As we mentioned earlier, the aurora borealis occur mainly because of the sun and the interactions that occur on its surface, so in order to understand how it occurs, we must understand what happens on the surface of the sun first. The sun consists of three layers: the optical layer, the color layer, and the corona layer. The surface of the sun is not calm and peaceful as it appears to us on Earth, but rather is replete with chemical reactions, which are the main source of light and heat reaching the earth. Solar activity reaches its peak once every 11 years, which causes the occurrence of solar costs, in addition to the occurrence of storms and solar winds, as well as some explosive solar protuberances and cliffs, the power of each of which is equivalent to the power of the explosion of two million billion tons of explosive materials! These craters send many radiations to the Earth, such as X-rays and gamma rays, as well as protons and electrons with high charges. The solar wind is very powerful and destructive, if it reaches the earth without finding anything to block it, it will destroy it and immediately end life with it. Therefore, it is from the mercy of God Almighty that He made the earth a magnetic envelope that protects it and prevents these winds and solar ions from entering it. However, this does not negate their effect. When they reach the magnetosphere, the electrons interact with the elements in it, such as hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen, causing what we see in bright lights and colors.

The Eskimo thought that the twilight is nothing but an alien creature with high curiosity and comes to spy on them, so they believed that the more they whispered and spoke in faint voices, the closer the lights came to them. As for the Romans, they sanctified the aurora borealis and called it “Aurora” and considered it the god of dawn, and the sister of the moon, and she came to them with her son “Al-Naseem”, and her arrival was announcing the coming of another god, “Apollo” the god of wisdom and intelligence, who carries with him the sun and its light
