Palestinian medical sources announced the death of 21 people from the Abu Raya family in Jabalia camp, in the northern Gaza Strip, and the injury of several others, as a result of a large fire that broke out in a residential building in the camp.

The Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein al-Sheikh, said on Twitter that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had ordered “all forms of medical and other assistance” to be urgently provided to those affected by the Gaza fire.

Palestinian President Abbas called the fire a “national tragedy” and declared one day of mourning, Friday.

Al-Sheikh stated in a statement that the Palestinian Authority called on Israel to open the Erez crossing with Gaza to transfer serious cases for treatment outside the Strip, if necessary.

Salah Abu Laila, director of the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia, said: “At least 20 charred bodies arrived at the Indonesian Hospital as a result of a fire in a building belonging to the Abu Raya family in Jabalia.”

An official in the Civil Defense in Gaza, who arrived at the scene of the fire, told reporters, "We pulled out many bodies and transferred the injured to the Indonesian Hospital," explaining that the Civil Defense "made tremendous efforts to put out the fire, but our capabilities are very modest."

The spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Interior, Iyad Al-Bozom, confirmed in a statement that civil defense crews “finished extinguishing the fire that broke out in a building in Jabalia camp,” noting that preliminary investigations indicated “the presence of benzene stored inside the house, which led to the massive outbreak of fire and the death of a number of people.” death cases.”
