What remains of the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral after the fire?

Expect the worst, it seems that the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral was among the largest and most disastrous fires in Paris this year

Footage published online showed a large fire engulfing the top of the cathedral at the level of the two bell towers. The fire department added that a major operation was underway, while a town hall spokesperson said on Twitter that the area had been cleared.

The fire spread to the roof of the medieval cathedral and quickly engulfed the top of the cathedral's giant tower, which collapsed as a result. The firefighters announced that all efforts are directed towards preventing the collapse of the north tower of Notre Dame Cathedral.

A large cloud of smoke covered the city sky, while ash fell over a wide area around the cathedral.

And the French Minister of State for the Interior confirmed that it takes another three or four hours to contain the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral

Firefighters evacuated the area around the cathedral in central Paris. Nearby buildings were also evacuated. The fire department confirmed that the cathedral's structure was preserved from collapse, announcing that a firefighter was seriously injured.

Eyewitnesses said that the police began evacuating the area where the church is located.

The Paris prosecutor's office said it had launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Paris officials said the fire was caused by renovations being carried out at the cathedral.

The cathedral is visited by millions of tourists every year.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo tweeted: "Terrible fire at Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. Firefighting teams are trying to control the flames. We mobilized teams immediately and are in close contact with the Archdiocese of Paris. I call on everyone to respect the safety perimeter.”

Macron's position

French President Emmanuel Macron has canceled a speech he was due to give to the nation on Monday due to the "horrific fire" that is raging at Paris' Notre Dame cathedral, an Elysee Palace official said.

Trump's position

At the same time, US President Donald Trump expressed his dismay today, Monday, over the fire that devours the historic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

"So horrible to see the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris," Trump said on Twitter. Water spray jets may be used to put out (the fire). We must act quickly!”

It is mentioned that the historic tower of the cathedral has also fallen, the wooden ceilings that were the cause of the fire were destroyed, the colored windows were broken, and the fate of the historical structures and shrines of the cathedral’s bishops is still unknown, as well as the crown of thorns, which is considered an invaluable historical heritage alone.
