While officials in the United States and the European Union are concerned about Alphabet's market power in light of antitrust restrictions, SumOfUs said, "We believe shareholders can get more value from a voluntary strategic reduction in the company's size than from asset sales imposed by regulators." .

Observers rule out that this proposal has a realistic chance of success, as (Larry Page) and (Sergey Brin) - the founders of Google and the largest CEOs of Alphabet - own about 51.3% of the vote of shareholders.

However, these calls show a growing focus on potential antitrust action against Alphabet and other big tech companies, such as Facebook and Amazon, as they face a political and public backlash over privacy issues and the power these companies now wield over the world's information.

Trump criticizes

It is noteworthy that the US President (Donald Trump) criticized Google more than once, claiming without evidence that searching for it through the Google search engine gives negative results for him. He suggested that US regulators follow the lead of their European counterparts and look at the tech monopolies, but he doesn't suggest any specific remedy.
