A screeching sound was heard by a Canadian plane from the bottom of the ocean, while searching for a tourist submarine that was on an expedition to the wreck of the “Titanic” ship.

The civilian submarine of the company “OceanGate Expeditions”, which operates underwater tours for charter and scientific exploration from a company that charges $ 250 for tours to visit the wreck of the “Titanic” ship in the North Atlantic, with 5 people on board, disappeared last Sunday.

OceanGate Expeditions said our entire focus is on the crew members of the submarine and their families. We are working for the safe return of the crew.

Among those missing was Hamish Harding, head of Action Aviation, according to Mark Butler, managing director of the Dubai-based aircraft brokerage firm. In a tweet on Twitter on Sunday, the company said, "The submarine has been successfully launched and Hamish is currently diving."

OceanGate offers 10-day expeditions to the site of the Titanic, providing “eligible explorers with the opportunity to join as expedition specialists and participate with scientific teams exploring the legendary ship that sank in 1912 on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic after colliding with an iceberg.” Guests pay a quarter of a million dollars, according to The New York Times.

The search operation has received "extensive assistance from several government agencies and deep-sea companies in an effort to re-establish contact with the missing submarine," according to the OceanGate statement.

Communication is missing

The US Coast Guard received a call Sunday from the submarine's command ship, the Polar Prince, that it had lost contact with the submarine about 900 miles (1450 kilometers) east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, according to Lieutenant Samantha Corcoran, a Coast Guard spokesman in Boston. A C-130 with radar capability was sent to search the area, and a Canadian P-8 Poseidon, an aircraft designed for anti-submarine warfare, joined on Monday.

"We are focused on the search and hope to locate all five individuals safely," Corcoran said.

OceanGate in Everett, Washington, conducted expeditions to explore the wreck in 2021 and 2022, with a maximum depth of 3800 meters (12500 feet), according to the company's website.

The trips take eight days at sea to survey the wreck and document the condition of the sunken ship, as well as the flora and fauna that inhabit the wreck site.

The missing sub, Titan, carries a navigator and 4 crew members to a maximum depth of 4000 meters and has a real-time onboard occupant health monitoring system that provides early warning detection to the navigator while allowing enough time to abort the descent and return safely to the surface, according to OceanGate. on the web.

According to the company, the submarine has only 96 hours since Wednesday morning before it runs out of oxygen, for its crew to survive.

In turn, countries are racing in rescue operations, as France sent a ship carrying a robot that can dive to the depth of the wreck of the “Titanic” ship.
