Celebrity syndrome... an obsession that ends in a mental and psychological disorder

It is natural for people to admire successful and accomplished people, so they are keen to take pictures next to them when the opportunity arises, but admiration often turns into an “obsession” that has serious consequences for mental health.

Recently, for example, the famous Turkish cook, Nusrat, known as a sprinkle of salt, found himself at the center of a “scandal” and criticism, when he appeared in a form described as “humiliating” during the World Cup in Qatar, when he appeared to “beg” Messi to take a picture to sideways, while the Argentine football star distanced himself, then reluctantly acquiesced.

The “psychcentral” website, which specializes in counseling and mental health, refers to what is known among specialists as the “celebrity worship syndrome,” noting that the latter is not officially listed and recognized in the Guide to Mental Health Disorders in the United States.

The source stated that what is meant by this syndrome is the occurrence of an exaggerated kind of admiration for the famous person, to the point of obsession, so that the fan becomes engrossed in following the details of his favorite star, and he may enter a state of screaming and excessive interaction if he sees him directly.

This syndrome arises because of a one-sided relationship, that is, on the part of the fan only, while the famous person does not know anything about who surrounds him with a big aura.

The site explains that admiration for celebrities is not necessarily negative, but it turns into a syndrome when it reaches an advanced level of compulsive nature, addiction and obsession.

Experts suggest that some people are more likely to have this syndrome, such as people who suffer from anxiety and depression, or who do not value themselves sufficiently and have low self-confidence, as well as those who suffer from addiction, and do not enjoy warm family and social relationships.

The narcissistic person is also a candidate for celebrity-worshipping syndrome, because he may seek to take pictures with them, so that he appears as someone who knows the adults. And he can Reaching out to them, therefore, he takes them as a way to give himself an aura.

One of the consequences of this syndrome is that it may affect a person's real life, because it makes him make comparisons between famous people, on the one hand, and the people closest to him, on the other hand, so he tends to underestimate his family and close associates.

And the matter may develop into harassment of fans of the famous person, and an attempt to establish a relationship with him, even if the matter is “elusive”, and the obsessed person may waste a lot of his energy chasing illusions and people who do not even know his existence.
