- T.J.Golak: What distinguishes Shangri-La Hotel is something special, it is like a hidden gem.

You may not find those shiny signs outside it, nor the large, huge lacy doors, but as soon as you enter the hotel building, you will feel that you have moved to a very high level of luxury.

Yes, there are many hotels in the region that really represent the standards of luxury at all levels, but what distinguishes us as the Shangri-La Bosphorus Hotel Istanbul is that we and all the hotel staff provide all our services from the heart and care about every detail in the best form and at the highest level, and this is the identity of the famous Shangri-La hotel chain.

Salwa: Have you noticed a change in travelers and travel after the Corona pandemic?

T.G. Culak: Of course there is a big change. In addition to the procedures that we follow as a hotel, which have changed a lot regarding sterilization and safety, there is a significant change in the behavior of travelers after the pandemic, as travelers in general have become more stressed, demanding, and more terrified than before. The difficult conditions that the world went through were reflected in the character of the inmates, as well as the tense political or economic conditions in some countries, which are reflected on their citizens wherever they are. Also, travelers have become more in demand for luxury. Visitors are now asking for luxury cars and expensive experiences as they were not before.

Salwa: Recently, we noticed that many high-end hotels are cooperating with famous names and luxury brands. Do you find this to be the trend in the hospitality sector, and how can these cooperations positively affect the name of the hotel?

T.G. Culak: It all comes down to where this cooperation will take place, how, and what is the outcome of it.

At Shangri-La Hotel Istanbul, we collaborate with luxury brands such as Bvlgari and Aqua Prima to ensure an ultra-luxury experience

In the bathroom and the hotel, and soon there will be a chef with a Michelin star among the chefs in the hotel, because that will certainly enhance the name of the hotel, but in the end we are in Turkey, there are many famous local restaurants, and from my point of view

The inclusion of a major international restaurant name in our hotel will not bring a return that is equivalent to its operating costs.

This is due to the nature of the place and the way of life in Turkey, so from my point of view these cooperations are due to the conditions of place and time.

Salwa: As general manager of one of the most important luxury hotels in Turkey, and in the world, what is the biggest challenge facing the hospitality sector in the region in your opinion?

T.J. Joules: The biggest challenge facing the hospitality sector today in the region is finding employees.

And then their training, when I started working in the hospitality industry people were lining up for jobs.

Today, we have more than XNUMX hotel vacancies in Shangri-La, of various specializations.

The biggest challenge is finding staff to fill these vacancies.
Another kind of challenge that we face in the hospitality sector is the general conditions in the region.

Which makes the staff members sometimes go through a bad psychological state, which requires us to make an extra effort to support them in the hotel individually, psychologically and economically, as one family.

Salwa: How do you see the future of tourism in Turkey?

T.G.Culak: The future of tourism in Turkey is definitely bright. Turkey possesses all the elements of ideal tourism at all levels.
