High-heeled shoes, risks and damages
High-heeled shoes, risks and damages
High heels may complement the elegance of a woman, but unfortunately it has a lot of damages. Here are some of them, madam:
-
Low back pain risk
If you suffer from unexplained back pain, high heels may be the actual source.
Excess weight on the balls of your feet causes your pelvis to tilt forward.
You lean back, increasing the arch in your lower back, which puts pressure on your lumbar spine.
The larger the heel, the greater the pressure.
-
Risk of nerve pain or damage
Our nervous system is a very sensitive system that can be greatly affected by our shoes.
High heels may cause a nerve condition called anal stenosis.
The condition can cause symptoms of shooting pain, as well as numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, cramps, and pain radiating through the buttocks and down the legs.
Plus sciatica as a potentially painful side effect!
-
Danger of vocal chord damage
It may sound pretty amazing, but high heels can lead to improper breathing and dropping, which in turn damages your delicate vocal chords.
Wearing heels all day can lead to faster and slower breathing and damage to the vocal cords.
-
Knee pain risk
Unfortunately, high heels are unforgiving to your knees.
The researchers found that high heels significantly increase the pressure of the bones on the bones in the knee joint, and this explains the higher incidence of osteoarthritis in the knee joint in women compared to men.
-
tumor risk
Got foot problems? Well, start by looking at the type of shoes.
In fact, sticking your feet in pointy shoes can lead to foot problems: bunions, plantar fasciitis, and neuroma (tingling, burning, or numbness in the foot)
-
Risk of carcinogenic inflammation
There may also be a link between [high-heeled] shoes and cancer, according to Dr. David Agus, the leading cancer specialist.
These shoes can ignite inflammation, which has been said to cause many different serious diseases, such as cancer.
“Certain types of inflammation have been linked to our most worrisome degenerative diseases, including heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, autoimmune diseases, and diabetes, and can significantly increase the risk of cancer,” says Dr. Agus.
Some data is still inconclusive, but the risk of inflammation has raised many red flags for high heel wearers.
-
Leg muscle weakness
Studies show that the calf muscles actually get weaker over time and need less muscle contraction as the lower calf muscles adapt to changes in shoes.
These changes can cause the muscles to lose efficiency and strength.
-
Ankle sprain risk
Even for most high heel wearers, there is a high risk of sprain coming from the extra pressure on the ankles.
Since the ankles are not built to take this kind of pressure, falls and a sprained ankle can be very common.
