Coffee is a new secret of fitness

Coffee seems to have a new benefit, and among the studies that encourage the consumption of coffee and others that prohibit it, a recent emergence may be good news for coffee lovers. By helping the body in the process of burning fat.

The researchers explained that drinking a cup of coffee causes brown fat to work, which is an active tissue that burns sugar and fat from food to maintain body temperature.

Body fat is divided into brown fat and white fat, as the latter constitutes the largest portion of body fat, and is responsible for storing excess energy, and thus weight gain.

It is believed that the caffeine in coffee is responsible for burning calories in the body.

During the study, the results of which were reported by the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, the researchers tested their theory on 9 healthy volunteers, at an average age of 27 years, after they found that it succeeded in the laboratory.

Volunteers were prevented from exercising and drinking caffeine or alcohol for at least nine hours before the test.
Then some of the volunteers were given a cup of instant coffee, while others were given a glass of water, and their bodies were examined for the effects of caffeine on them.

Professor Michael Symonds pointed out that previous studies revealed that brown fat is mainly concentrated in the shoulder, neck and back areas, so they were able to easily monitor the effect of caffeine on the participants.

"The results were positive and we now need to make sure that caffeine, as one of the ingredients in coffee, is a stimulant, or that there is another ingredient that helps activate the brown fat," Symonds added.

Thermal scans showed that the participants' brown fat got hotter when they drank the coffee, indicating that it was burning calories.

A cup of coffee or more

It wasn't clear from the study whether a single cup of coffee in the morning would be enough to stimulate calorie burning throughout the day, or if people should drink coffee more regularly.

Symonds stressed that this study is the first of its kind to determine the direct effect of caffeine on brown fat.

He added: "The potential implications of our findings are rather significant, because obesity is a major concern for society in addition to the growing diabetes epidemic, and brown fat could be part of the solution."

The team also found that when brown fat is activated, the body better controls the amount of sugar and fat circulating in the blood, which may help control blood glucose, thus protecting people from type XNUMX diabetes.

Professor Symonds and colleagues will continue their studies to see if other sources of caffeine can have benefits such as coffee.
