Drink your coffee at the right times

Starting with a cup of coffee when you wake up is a morning habit for many, but have you thought what time is the right time to drink this stimulant drink?, in order to help you prolong the beneficial effect you are looking for in caffeine as a boost to you.

To find out the answer, we must know that the body naturally secretes cortisol every morning, which is the stress hormone along with adrenaline. It gives us energy and keeps us focused and alert, but it actually interferes with caffeine, so waiting until the effects of stress hormones are reduced will help us benefit more from caffeine.

"Typically cortisol starts to rise around 4 a.m., as does adrenaline, so you're ready for your day," said Stephen Gundry, a cardiac surgeon at the Center for Reconstructive Medicine at the International Heart and Lung Institute. Both cause your blood sugar (glucose) to rise, so you have plenty of fuel available. And if you add to that natural energy the rush you get from caffeine, the two stimulants can really collide and make you feel more anxious than usual,” Business Insider reports.

3 to 4 hours

As Dietitian Tracy Lockwood Beckerman explained: “There is some science behind isolating caffeine and peak cortisol so they don't conflict and have compound negative effects in the body, such as stress. You basically want the caffeine in coffee to shine like a solo artist and not be affected by the powerful effects of cortisol.”

Also, Dietitian Laura Cibolo added that the best way to ensure activity throughout the day is to turn to caffeine when cortisol levels begin to drop, which happens “about three to four hours after waking up.”

This way, you will get a new boost of energy when your energy naturally begins to dwindle.

Beckerman prefers a shorter waiting period for her first cup of coffee after waking up, and according to her advice, the best time to drink your coffee may be an hour after waking up.

Alertness and cortisol-derived focus tend to peak 30 to 45 minutes after awakening. Therefore, waiting around an hour will give you the "real caffeine effect".

And there's another good reason why you might want to wait a little longer for your first cup of coffee. Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can be detrimental to your health. Especially in the long term because it can damage your digestive system, alter your nervous system, and lead to an irregular circadian clock.

“The caffeine in coffee also increases glucose, so if you want to get up and go, especially for exercise or just walking the dog, have a cup of coffee when you wake up,” Gundry said.
