A British report confirmed that bananas can help a person get a good night's sleep, adding that bananas are famous for containing potassium in addition to being rich in magnesium, vitamin B6 and protein.
Sleep expert Yasmin Lee told The Express that the nutrients in bananas help produce the hormones serotonin and melatonin that help you sleep.
She also added that bananas help boost sleep hormones, because they contain an amino acid known as tryptophan, which helps produce serotonin, a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation by slowing messages to nerve cells.
Despite being a powerful source of tryptophan, bananas are well known as a source of potassium, which can help the body in several ways. One of these ways is “by helping to relax your muscles.
When you have low potassium levels, your muscles become stiff, which causes muscle cramps and spasms, and prevents you from getting a good night’s rest.”
Furthermore, potassium also helps lower blood pressure by “relaxing blood vessels and improving circulation.”
Consuming potassium also reduces stress on your kidneys and helps flush out excess sodium from the body.” Another ingredient found in bananas is magnesium, which can also aid sleep.
