The lives of diabetics are in danger!!!

It seems that diabetes has other complications that the doctor does not tell us. A recent American study showed that people with type XNUMX diabetes, who do not sleep well, may need more time to heal their wounds.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Tennessee, and their results were published in the latest issue of the scientific journal Sleep.

To reach the results of the study, the team monitored the effect of interrupted sleep on a group of mice with type XNUMX diabetes, who were also overweight.

They also compared the condition of those mice, with those of healthy and normal weight, and they anesthetized the two groups, and inflicted a small wound in the backs of the mice.

The team monitored how long the wound took to heal under two sleep scenarios, the first involving normal sleep, and the second interrupted sleep.

They also found that good sleep plays a particularly important role in wound healing among obese mice with type XNUMX diabetes.

According to the results, it took 13 days for diabetic mice, who slept intermittently, to reach 50% of wound healing, in contrast, the wounds of mice of normal weight with regular sleep reached the same amount of wound healing in only about 5 days. .

The problem of developing foot or lower leg wounds is one of the most frustrating and debilitating complications for diabetics, which once formed can go on for months without healing, leading to painful and dangerous injuries.

In addition, about a quarter of diabetic patients suffer from chronic skin ulcers, especially foot ulcers, in addition to bed ulcers, as a result of lying or sitting in the same position for a long time.

Treatment for these wounds is often limited to standard care, such as moist dressings and removal of damaged tissue that reduces pressure on the wound.

Despite these health measures, wounds and ulcers often persist, and in severe cases, doctors resort to amputation of the foot, as diabetic wounds are the main cause of amputations in the United States.

Previous studies have revealed that getting a sufficient amount of sleep at night ranging between 7 to 9 hours improves general health and protects a person from many diseases, especially diabetes, obesity and Alzheimer’s.

Studies have linked sleep disturbances to a higher risk of stroke, heart attack, and cardiovascular disease
