Although this infection may affect a person at any age, it is more common among children and those in their early adolescence. It is reported that the best way to prevent it is to get the triple MMR vaccine, which is an anti-measles, mumps and rubella vaccine; Where this vaccine is given in one injection, it is also advised to stay away from people with this infection and their personal belongings, such as cups and spoons, because it is a contagious disease.

Symptoms of this infection may not appear until two to three weeks after the child's exposure to the virus that leads to this infection, and symptoms usually last for 10 to 14 days from the appearance of the first symptoms or signs.

It is worth noting that this infection is transmitted through saliva when coughing and sneezing, for example, and it is transmitted through eating or drinking from dishes from which an infected person ate, as well as other methods, including the nasal and throat mucus of the patient, and the injured is able to transmit the infection during The period from two days before the first signs and symptoms of inflammation to 10 days after their onset.

As for the symptoms and signs of this inflammation, they include a rise in temperature, headache, and a feeling of pain in the muscles and joints, in addition to feeling tired and sleepy more than usual, and after several days, the child may develop one or more of the symptoms and signs that include the following:

1- Pain when chewing or moving the mouth, and it is mentioned that sour foods and drinks lead to the production of more saliva, which increases pain, therefore, it is advised to avoid them and avoid all foods and drinks that increase saliva production.

2 - swelling of the parotid gland or glands on one or both sides; As the gland or two glands become solid and painful.

3- Pain in the ear and abdomen.

4- Nausea and vomiting, as well as loss of feeling of hunger and thirst.

As for its complications, although they are rarely severe, they may include an enlarged pancreas, meningitis, weakness or loss of hearing, and pain in the testicles, which in some cases may lead to fertility problems.

Although the symptoms of mumps may be so simple for some that they may not feel them, there are cases that require consulting a doctor, including; High temperature of the child, constant pain in the abdomen, vomiting, pain and swelling in the testicles, red and uncomfortable eyes, and red cheeks in the swollen area due to mumps.

It is reported that there are cases that require immediate medical care, including the child having convulsions, a stiff neck, or a severe headache that does not go away using painkillers.
