Is Da Vinci the most expensive painting in the world settled on the walls of the Louvre Abu Dhabi?

In a unique historical event, the total sale of the “Post-War and Contemporary Art” auction, which was held at Christie’s, for global auctions in New York, reached 788 million US dollars.

The well-known painting of Christ “Salvator Mundi”, by the international artist Leonardo da Vinci, hit all records and broke all expectations, as it was sold in the same auction with a financial value of 450,312,500 US dollars, and at this price the painting is one of the most expensive paintings sold in the world.

The painting that was sold attracted the attention of the world, as nearly 1000 art collectors, dealers, consultants, journalists and viewers visited the house, and nearly 30 people flocked to Christie's exhibitions in Hong Kong, London, San Francisco and New York.

The painting was owned by the King of England, Charles I, and was offered for sale at an auction in 1763, and then disappeared until 1900 when it appeared at a British antiques collector, and it was believed at that time that the painting belonged to one of Da Vinci's students, and not to Da Vinci himself.

Then, in 2005, a group of art dealers acquired it for only ten thousand dollars, after it suffered severe damage, and after the dealers restored it, it was bought by the Russian billionaire, Dmitry Rybolev, in 2013 for 127 million dollars, before it was sold in the last auction.

Some still question the authenticity of the painting after it was restored so much that it looked more like a copy than the original, but nevertheless it was sold for $450 million, to a buyer whose name was not revealed by Christie's.

The most expensive painting is destined for Asia and all the suspicions and expectations that this painting will be the most expensive masterpiece of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi, will the Christ painting decorate the walls of the new art destination in the world?
