Husband pushes his pregnant wife and kills her for insurance policy

The Turkish judiciary issued a provisional detention ruling against a husband suspected of killing his pregnant wife in the seventh month, accusing him of “pushing her from a high hill” after taking romantic pictures with her.

The husband is accused of killing his wife with the aim of deceiving the insurance company and collecting the amount of an accident insurance policy that the husband had extracted for his wife before the accident, according to Turkish and foreign media.

The Turkish newspaper, Daily Hurriyet, said that the police arrested Hakan Aysal, 40, for the murder of his wife, Samra Aysal, and their unborn child while they were spending a romantic vacation in the Butterfly Valley in the Turkish city of Mugla.

Aysal allegedly pushed his wife off the cliff to her death on the spot, and prosecutors say the husband planned to kill his wife first by taking out accident insurance on her behalf shortly before the "accident".

The sum of the insurance mentioned in the indictment is about $50, and the husband was apparently planning to spend it as the beneficiary of the policy.

Prosecutors said that Hakan and his wife sat for three hours on the slope so that he could make sure it was clear and that no one was watching him, adding that "as soon as he realized that they were alone, he deliberately pushed her into the abyss."

The indictment also indicated that Aysal demanded payment of the insurance shortly after his wife's death, but the policy was rejected when the context of the investigation was revealed.

The High Criminal Court ruled that he be held in pretrial detention on charges of premeditated murder.

The court heard the testimony of the wife's brother, who said that Hakan "did not seem sad about the death of his wife," adding, "My sister was against the loans, but after her death we heard that Hakan took three loans in her name before she died."

The wife's brother added, "Samra was afraid of heights, too."
