How can we fight corona mutants?

Many mutants of the Corona virus have been circulating since the virus was discovered in December 2019, and many of them are partially resistant to antibodies that were developed in some vaccines, but American scientists recently announced the identification of an antibody that can neutralize all known mutations.

In a study published on the University of Washington website, researchers revealed that they studied 43 samples and analyzed how to prevent infection with the original variant of Covid 19, then nine of the most powerful antibodies were tested, and the most effective one was selected.

And it turned out that the SARS2-38 antibody can fight the common strains of corona virus, which are “alpha”, “beta”, “gamma”, “delta”, “kappa”, and “iota”, in addition to rare mutations.

Also, the researchers concluded that because there is a risk of new mutations in the future, effective antibodies that can support the body's immunity are needed both independently and in combination with treatment.

Corona will continue to evolve

For his part, the study's lead author, Michael S. Diamond, said it is likely that the virus will continue to evolve over time and space.

He noted that effective, broadly neutralizing antibodies that act individually can be paired to form novel formulations likely to prevent resistance.

In parallel, Diamond, who is also a professor of molecular microbiology, pathology and immunology, said the identified antibody is highly neutralizing (meaning it works very well at low concentrations) and broadly neutralizing (meaning it works against all variants).
