The battle begins with forcing the child to eat and the child’s continued refusal of food and his lack of pleasure while eating, and the food is associated in his mind with anger and sadness, and the result is a general weakness of the child and his being thin.

Here, dear mother, are some tips that help every mother and her child to feed properly and healthily, and end the daily battles at mealtime:

1- If you want his food to be regular, his sleep must be regular “for a period of not less than ten hours a day”, so that there is no disruption in the child’s biological clock, so he feels weak and lethargic

2- A child from the age of one to two years needs between two to three cups of milk per day.. A common mistake is to rely entirely on milk as in the first year of life, because the child at this stage needs many nutrients that are not all available in milk, And so as not to suffer from iron deficiency anemia.

3- The child needs three basic meals a day and two additional light meals between meals, and the meals must be varied and meet the child’s nutritional needs, as the amount of energy at this age burns quickly, due to the large movement of the child at this stage, it is better not to eat between meals or The time between each meal and the next should be at least three hours, because excessive feeding of the child and urging him to eat may lead to an increase in the number of fat cells in the body.

4- Take your time while the child is eating his meal and feed him in a careful way, so that he does not feel that it is an annoying duty that you are doing and you have to finish it quickly, because eating quickly is harmful to the child’s health.

5- Do not ignore breakfast, on the pretext that lunch time is approaching or you do not have time, because it is an essential meal for the child, and you should leave enough time between breakfast and lunch
.
6- Do not let your child eat sweets or chips before meals so as not to block his appetite, and do not give it to him as an alternative meal if he did not eat his meal, but leave him for a while and then try to feed him.. It is useful for the mother to bring useful food alternatives such as ( Fresh juices, fruit salad, French fries) or healthy homemade ice cream

7- Do not pressure him to eat his food so that he does not feel that it is a means of punishment, and you can leave the meal and delay it for some time in case he refuses it. The child, and he should not be forced to eat a meal he does not like, otherwise the reason for this is his hatred of the food he loves and which he does not like, with the need not to show fear and anxiety to the child as a result of his unwillingness to eat food, but rather he should be left .. When he is hungry, he will automatically go to the place of eating to get food It, and do not force the child to eat while he is in anger or distress, and do not force him to leave playing with his peers and friends to come to eat suddenly.

8- Do not expect an increase in height and weight in the first year of your child's life, because the growth process is slower at this age. And if you notice that he is not gaining much weight, do not give him vitamins, or any appetizers without consulting his doctor.

9- Finally, make the meal a happy time for the child. Let him eat his food alone, even if his method is random, chaotic, and improper. It is important to add multiple colors on the table to attract the child’s eyes. There is no objection to placing red tomatoes, yellow carrot slices and green cucumbers. All this encourages the child to come to the food with pleasure and eat with his eyes before his mouth.
