Queen Elizabeth gives Prince William a new title
Queen Elizabeth grants her grandson and heir Prince William a new title, Lord High Commissioner for the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. This step was described as preparation for the future King of Britain.
And the British newspaper, “Daily Express”, indicated that although the position is ceremonial, it carries with it important connotations.
Kings have sworn to preserve the Church of Scotland since the sixteenth century as it is their duty to preserve Protestantism as indicated by the laws of Scotland in 1707, and this is confirmed in the Act of Unity between England and Scotland.
The Queen made this pledge at the first meeting of her Privy Council in February 1952.
This comes at a time when calls have increased for Prince Charles to step down from the position of heir to the British throne, paving the way for William to become the future king of Britain.
