Al Muhairi: The wise leadership is keen to promote joint Gulf action in the food security file

Her Excellency Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, affirmed the UAE's wise leadership's appreciation of the Gulf work and the joint efforts in strengthening the food and agriculture system at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. This came during her Excellency's participation in the 32nd meeting of the Agricultural Cooperation Committee of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.

Her Excellency praised the leading role of the committee, expressing her hope that its decisions would mark the beginning of a new and promising phase of joint Gulf action to achieve the goals of the region's governments and peoples. Her Excellency stressed the need to continue developing joint efforts and strengthening the existing levels of cooperation among the GCC countries to enhance the food security file, which has become one of the priority issues at all local, regional and global levels.

The Minister noted that the topics on the agenda of the committee's meeting are of great importance due to their repercussions on the state of food security, and thanked the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf for all the efforts made in this regard.

The meeting dealt with a wide range of topics and issues, including the topics of the Standing Committee for Agricultural Systems and Policies in the region, the Standing Committee for Livestock Resources, and the Permanent Committee for Fisheries. Among the most important points that were discussed and reviewed during the meeting were the unified law on the management of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, the unified agricultural quarantine law, the project to develop sustainable production systems for date palms in the region, the proposal to enhance Gulf competitiveness on the Gulf agricultural product, and the Gulf Center for Early Warning of Animal Diseases, Organizing and controlling the export and import of living aquatic wealth and its products. The topics of non-tariff restrictions and joint cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Kingdom of Morocco were also discussed.
