Thirty million dollars for the Lady Gaga diamond

Lady Gaga's look was the focus of attention, as usual, when she arrived at the 91st Academy Awards ceremony, which was held a few hours ago in Los Angeles. But the attention this time was not in the strangeness of the outfit she adopted, as she chose simplicity through a black off-the-shoulder dress signed by Alexander McQueen, to allow the emergence of the luxurious diamond necklace adorned with the most famous yellow diamond in the world, whose price exceeds $ 30 million.

Tiffany Diamond

This necklace bears the yellow “Tiffany” diamond, the most famous diamond in the collection of the famous American jewelry house Ti
ffany&Co. This rare yellow diamond weighs 128.54 carats, only the third time it has been worn in the Maison's 142-year history.

The diamond was discovered in 1877 and was purchased by Tiffany&Co from its home country of South Africa a year later. When it was discovered, this diamond weighed 287.42 carats, and was polished by Dr. George Frederic Kunz, in charge of the diamond polishing department at the Maison at the time, to its current shape.

The “Tiffany” diamond appeared for the first time in a necklace worn by Mrs. Mary Whitehouse in 1957 at a party organized by Tiffany & Co in Newport, USA. Her second appearance was when movie star Audrey Hepburn wore it in the promotional photos for her famous movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, after it was added to a necklace designed by Jan Schlummerger. This diamond appeared in a new necklace in 2012 on the occasion of the celebrations held by the house of Tiffany & Co for its 175th anniversary, after it was added to a diamond necklace adorned with about 100 carats of white diamonds.

The Oscars was the first occasion that the Tiffany diamond appeared on the red carpet of an international festival. As for its material value, Tiffany & Co confirms that it is currently not for sale, but it previously approved a promotional advertisement for it, during which it was offered for sale for 24 hours only at a price of $ 5 million. That was in the year 1972, which means that its material value can reach today about 30 million US dollars.

This diamond brought luck to Lady Gaga, who was the first to wear it on the red carpet for an international occasion and win the first Oscar of her career, making this precious yellow stone a special place in the history of cinema and fashion alike.
