Finally.. the HD images feature in the WhatsApp application

WhatsApp is currently testing the feature of sending images within the application in high quality HD, according to what was monitored in the latest beta version of the application on iPhone and Android.

The new feature aims to improve the experience of sharing photos via WhatsApp, and it has already started to appear with some users of the beta version of the application.

According to the images published within the application, the option to send images in HD quality will appear in the user interface within the image sharing window when choosing a large image to send, such as those taken with a phone camera.

The user will have two options, either to send the image in standard “compressed” quality, which is the default option, or to choose HD quality, so that the application sends the image in larger dimensions and better quality than usual, while also compressing it lighter without sending it in the original dimensions.

By default, the WhatsApp application sends images in standard, “compressed” quality, because this ensures that they are sent and received quickly, but the images are sent in lower quality and some of their details are lost, which makes many users resort to alternative methods.

And when sending images in high quality, WhatsApp will put the “HD” tag on the image, so that the recipient of the image knows that it was sent in higher quality, and it is easy to distinguish it within the conversation.

It should be noted that this feature is currently limited to sending images within conversations only, and is not available when sharing images in the statuses section, or when sending video clips, as WhatsApp compresses them in all cases.

The feature of sending images in high quality HD will be tested in WhatsApp for some time before it is available in a later update for all users.

The WhatsApp application does not allow sending images in the original quality unless they are sent as a file, as is the case in the competing Telegram application, and alternative methods can be relied upon, such as uploading images to a cloud storage service - such as Google Drive - and then sharing them.
