The most famous French queens are present at the Dior fashion show

Dior presented its ready-to-wear collection for the upcoming spring and summer during the Paris Fashion Week, which is currently taking place in the French capital. The muse of this show is none other than Catherine de Medici, Queen of France between 1547 and 1559.
What are the commonalities between this historical figure and the women of today?

The invocation of the character of France's Queen Catherine de' Medici of Italian descent in the Dior show comes just a few days after the election of the first female Prime Minister in Italian history. And at a time when history is still reminded of the pioneering role that this queen played in the renaissance of her kingdom at the level of arts and culture.

Black and white colors dominated most of the looks of this show, and only some beige designs were included on them. As for the reason for adopting these neutral gradations alone, it is due to the fact that Catherine de Medici, who gave birth to ten children, three of whom became kings of France, was widowed for 30 years. During this period, she was only wearing black, and that is why she was called the "Black Queen".
About this collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior, said that she tried to find common ground between Italy and France, especially since she has Italian roots, just like Catherine de' Medici. It was launched from an exhibition held in 2008 in Florence and dealt with the life of this queen, to search for her impact on culture in France.

The show was distinguished as an integrated work of art in which Maria Grazia Chiuri collaborated with interior designer Eva Jospin, who executed the decor in the form of a cave made of recycled cardboard. The passing of the models coincided with a dance music show that evoked the parties that Catherine de' Medici organized to show her refined taste and interest in elegance and culture.

In preparing the designs for this collection, Currie used an old map dating back to the fifties of the last century. It represents a “panorama” of the city of Paris, in the center of which is the main center of the House of Dior on Rue Montaigne. This map was printed on a “monochrome” canvas that was transformed into various designs that were presented during this show. As for her extensive use of lace, it is linked to the life of Catherine de Medici, who learned embroidery since her childhood and took it with her to France to use it in her luxurious looks.
Through this show, Maria Grazia Chiuri excels in weaving a dialogue with the past and with reality at the same time. She even transformed the “corset corset” into a comfortable piece that she presented in an airy style that matches the nature of our modern fashion. To prove once again that the boundaries of time and space do not exist in the world of fashion. Check out some of Dior's ready-to-wear spring/summer designs below
