A mother sells her baby to have a nose job

The Russian authorities have arrested a ruthless woman who sold her newborn to pay $3600 for a rhinoplasty, according to the New York Post, citing the Russian newspaper, Daily Star.

The Russian authorities did not reveal the name of the 33-year-old woman, who was detained in late May after being accused of committing the crime of human trafficking.

The mother was reported to have given birth to a baby boy on April 25 at a hospital in the southern city of Kaspiysk, before selling it just five days later to a local couple looking to become parents.

According to a statement issued by Russian officials, the mother "met a local resident and agreed to hand him over her newborn son in exchange for a reward of 200 rubles." She received a small down payment of $360.

Less than four weeks later, on May 26, the woman is believed to have received the rest.

The police received a report shortly thereafter about the crime of selling the child. No data was available about who submitted the report to the police, who took the initiative to detain the mother and the couple who had adopted the child who was born illegally.

The couple told investigators that the woman gave them the child and his birth certificate, but they denied paying the money to buy the child directly. They claimed that the mother then asked for $3200 to have a nose operation "in order to breathe better", stressing that they were happy to have helped in this matter.

It appears from the photographs taken of the mother after her arrest that she was unable to perform rhinoplasty before her arrest for having committed an offense under articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation described as “a sale of a person in a state of incapacity”.

Police photos also showed the wife who bought the baby cuddling the newborn, who is now two months old. It was not revealed who is currently caring for the child and what charges can be brought against the couple.
