Shall we say goodbye to likes Instagram With no return, Instagram has expanded the feature to hide the number of "likes" on users' posts, as it tries to counter criticism that the statistic is harmful to mental health and makes participants feel bad when comparing themselves to others.
Facebook's photo-sharing service has been using the beta feature in Canada since May. Now, Facebook says, the test may extend to Ireland, Italy, Japan, Australia, Brazil and New Zealand.
Facebook usually tests new features on Instagram and Facebook in smaller markets before, if at all, implementing them in the US.
People can still see the number of people who have liked their photos, but they will not see the numbers on other people's posts, and thus hiding Instagram likes will reduce the comparisons and frustration that afflict some after seeing others' posts.
