Chinese innovation uses electricity to increase agricultural production
How can we enhance food production globally despite the escalation of major challenges such as limited agricultural areas, water scarcity, global warming and the spread of agricultural pests that affect many crops? How can a person look to a food secure future? Questions The world is still searching for answers, solutions and ideas that would put an end, or at least ease the fears about what the near future holds.
While it is estimated that the world population will reach more than 10 billion people by 2050, this huge number of people needs a qualitative increase also in the volume of agricultural production globally.
In China, ideas crystallized and the features of answering these questions were formed in the form of innovation presented by the World Government Summit through “Creative Government Innovations”, the main event accompanying it for the fourth year in a row, as the Dalian Environmental Technology Foundation worked to develop a creative innovation based on the use of electricity to increase agricultural production.
promising start
Chinese researchers have succeeded in using high-voltage electricity to stimulate plant growth processes and eliminate agricultural pests caused by bacteria and viruses in the air and soil, which ultimately contributes to increasing food production without depleting natural resources.
The experiment succeeded in increasing the yield of vegetables by 30%, reducing the use of pesticides by 70-100% and reducing the use of fertilizers by more than 20%.
Multiple results
This innovation can turn into a qualitative achievement if it proves its economic feasibility and is applied on a large scale in the vast agricultural areas to protect them from harmful pests, rationalize the use of water resources needed to irrigate crops, and protect the soil from depletion and desertification, which will reflect positively on efforts to protect the environment and ensure a more future. sustainability for our planet.
These ideas, which foresee innovative solutions to serve people in future cities and societies, reinforce the message of the World Government Summit to create a better tomorrow for people, through innovative ideas and fruitful policies aimed at the good of humanity.
