London clashes get worse, and the mayor of London calls for movement restrictions

London Mayor Sadiq Khan urged Britons to stay away from the center of the capital on Saturday as preparations for a possible confrontation between anti-racism protesters and far-right groups.

The authorities covered the statues of historical figures, including the statue of Winston Churchill, with wood panels on Friday, ahead of new demonstrations expected in London after the statue issued symbols targeting anti-racism groups.

"We have intelligence that groups from the far right will come to London and ostensibly say that their goal is to protect the statues, but we believe that the statues may be a potential flashpoint for violence," Khan said.

Khan called on citizens not to participate in demonstrations during the Corona pandemic, after evidence emerged from the United States that some of those who participated had contracted the infection.

A few days ago, the statue of Churchill, who led Britain at the time of World War II, and which is located outside the Parliament building, was sprayed with paint, writing phrases and drawings, after a largely peaceful demonstration over the killing of unarmed black American George Floyd, after a white Minneapolis police officer knelt on his neck when Almost nine minutes.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Friday it was "ridiculous and shameful" that the Churchill statue had been the subject of an attempted attack.

"Yes, he sometimes expressed opinions that are unacceptable to us today, but he was a hero and totally deserves this memorial," he wrote.
