Emperor Akihuto of Japan abdicates his throne
Today, Tuesday, in a historic and unprecedented event, the Japanese Emperor Akihito abdicated his throne, "the Chrysanthemum Throne", which extended his tenure for thirty years, as Akihito succeeded the Chrysanthemum throne after the death of his father, Emperor Hirohito in 1989.
And he will take over the empire tomorrow, Wednesday, through an official ceremony to install Crown Prince Naruhito, 59, the eldest son of Akihito.
The reason behind Akihito's abdication is that he is worried that his advanced age and poor health will prevent him from performing his official duties.
