Dark skin and ways to take care of it in the summer

Did you know that brown skin needs Attention Double, its thickness remains sensitive skin and prone to dehydration much more than light skin, and contrary to prevailing beliefs, brown and even black skin needs protection from the sun as it is prone to dehydration. But its requirements in this area differ from the requirements of light skins.

Exposing brown skin to the sun without any protection makes it vulnerable to burns and the dangers of ultraviolet rays. Structurally, this skin usually differs from fair skin in that it is slightly thicker and has denser tissues. It is noticeable that the surface layer in brown skin is not thicker than the same layer in light skin, but it is more dense. As for the dermis, which is the middle layer of the epidermis, in the case of dark skin it is slightly thicker and more dense thanks to the high percentage of elastin fibers and collagen Which protects it from premature aging.

 Dark skin and UV rays

One of the most prominent features of dark skin is the high rate of melanin coloration, which means that the cells responsible for coloring the skin are not more numerous than those found in light skin, but are more active. The melanin granules produced by these cells are larger in number and in color more dark.

This means that the natural protection system that melanin provides for dark skin absorbs about 90% of UV rays that reach the skin's surface.

Some studies indicate that dark skin absorbs UV rays five times less than the same rate in light skins. This means that dark skin is less likely to develop skin cancer and maintains its suppleness better than light skin.

Skin drier than average

This skin is usually characterized by being drier than light skin, as it is more sensitive to weather changes. These skins have the ability to adapt to harsh climatic conditions (excessive exposure to the sun, hot and humid weather…) in order to protect the body from external aggressions. But it becomes dehydrated when it is in moderate climatic conditions, so its owners feel the loss of moisture and suffer from peeling. To protect itself from these conditions, dark skin usually increases its oil secretions, which explains its mixed nature, i.e. dry due to lack of water and oiliness as a result of excessive secretions.

Protection not less than 15spf

If the high level of melanin in brown skin provides protection from ultraviolet rays, it does not protect it permanently from the dangers of sun exposure. Therefore, they need to use protection products in this area.

Choosing the right protection should be related to the type of skin and the type of radiation to which it is exposed. A tan can only have a SPF of 15-30spf, but certain cases that are undergoing dermatological treatments or have spots that need a full 50spf protection. To avoid the white mask that sun protection products leave on the skin, it is best to use transparent or colored protection creams that are easily absorbed by the skin.

Risks to brown skin that remains unprotected

This skin's tolerance to sunlight is greater than that of fair skin. But this tolerance remains limited, and exposure to the sun without any protection can expose dark skin to premature aging, spots, burns, sunstroke, and skin cancers.

And if brown skin is dry by nature, exposure to the sun without protection increases its dryness. In this case, she needs protection products with a rich composition that guarantees her prevention and nutrition at the same time. They also need moisturizing products after exposure to the sun, which may take the form of moisturizing milk, oil, or balm that re-moisturizes and protects them from drying out.

Spots appearing on brown skin

It can appear on dark skin due to skin problems such as acne, eczema, scarring, or hormonal disorders that can cause inflammation that leads to excessive production of melanin and the appearance of darker spots than the color of the skin. In this case, these spots are treated with topical or cosmetic treatments, usually associated with their causes
