Television causes death and many other damages

TV causes death Yes, a recent American study stated that sitting in front of television screens for 4 hours a day or more, increases the chances of infection and premature death from cardiovascular diseases.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Central Florida, and their results were published in the Scientific Journal of the American Heart Association.

The team conducted a study to compare the effects of sitting at desk jobs and sitting to watch TV on heart health. To arrive at the study's findings, the team reviewed data from 3 adults, who reviewed their television habits, as well as the number of hours they spent sitting at their desk.

Followed 129 people for 8 years

During the follow-up period of more than 8 years, 129 people with cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attacks, were recorded, in addition to 205 deaths.

The researchers found that participants who sat for long hours during desk jobs did moderate physical activity, ate a healthier diet, had higher incomes, and smoked cigarettes and drank less alcohol, compared to those who spent long hours in front of the TV.

In contrast, those who sat for long hours in front of the TV had lower incomes, less physical activity, unhealthy food intake, and heavy alcohol and cigarette consumption. And their blood pressure was higher.

And 33% of the participants reported that they watch TV for less than two hours per day, while 36% said they watched it from two to four hours per day, and 4% said they watched TV for more than 31 hours per day.

premature death

The researchers found that those who watched four or more hours of television a day were 4 percent more likely to have an early death from cardiovascular disease, compared to those who watched two hours of television or sat for long hours at desk jobs.

Lead researcher Dr Janet Garcia said: "TV watching may be associated with health risks that affect the efficiency of the heart, more than just sitting at work, because sitting in front of the TV is associated with wrong habits such as unhealthy eating and lack of movement, drinking alcohol and smoking."

She added: "During TV watching at the end of the day, individuals consume more than one meal, and sit for long hours without movement until they fall asleep, and this behavior is very harmful to health."

Previous studies have shown that spending a lot of time in front of television and computer screens increases the chances of heart disease and cancer.

physical inactivity

Studies have shown that physical inactivity for short periods negatively affects muscle strength and lower limbs, which help people move, especially climbing stairs.

According to the World Health Organization, physical inactivity is the main reason behind the occurrence of about 21% to 25% of cases of colon and breast cancer, 27% of diabetes cases, and about 30% of cardiovascular diseases.
