Hepatitis B is a viral infection of the liver that can cause both acute and chronic diseases. The virus is transmitted through contact with the blood of an infected person. Hepatitis B is an important occupational hazard for health workers. This inflammation is a prominent global health problem and can cause chronic infection and put people at high risk of death from cirrhosis and liver cancer. A hepatitis B vaccine is available.
Symptoms:
Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, extreme tiredness, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In a small subgroup of people with acute hepatitis, acute hepatitis can develop into acute liver failure that can lead to death.
