What is food allergy?: It is an allergic reaction of the immune system that occurs immediately after eating certain foods. Food allergy may affect the skin, digestive system, respiratory system, or cardiovascular system. Many types of foods can be allergens, but some foods are more likely to trigger an allergic reaction than others.
Causes of food allergy:
Food allergy occurs when the immune system mistakenly treats proteins in food as a pathogen, and as a result a number of chemicals are released and these are the substances that cause allergy symptoms. The following eight foods account for 90 percent of all foods.
- cow milk
- eggs
- Peanuts
- fish
- oysters
- Nuts, such as cashews or walnuts
- Wheat
- soy
Symptoms may include Mild food allergy related to the following:
- sneezing
- stuffy or runny nose
- Itchy watery eyes.
- swelling;
- Heart rush.
- stomach cramps
- Diarrhea .
Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction to food are::
- Difficulty breathing, including wheezing
- Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat
- Itchy, blotchy, raised rash
- Dizziness or weakness
- Nausea or vomiting
