Although the cells of the human body need water to function well, and this is known and documented information, the problem usually appears when you drink a lot of water, which is called “excess”.

While there is no single formula for determining how much a person should drink per day, the common recommendation is that 8 cups a day is a good starting point.

Poisoning and brain disorder

Perhaps the most dangerous thing was revealed by a new study, which stated that excessive drinking of water may poison the body, or disturb brain functions, according to what was reported by the “Diet & Weight Management” website.

The study showed that this happens when there is a lot of water in the cells, including brain cells, which leads to their enlargement, and when the cells in the brain swell, it causes pressure that leads to other symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness and headache.

If this pressure increases, it may cause conditions such as high blood pressure, slow heart rate, and also may cause a lack of sodium, which is a crucial element that helps maintain fluid balance inside and outside cells, and when its levels decrease due to the presence of a large amount of water in In the body, fluids enter inside the cells and then the latter swell, which exposes the person to the risk of seizures, coma, or even death.

A sign of sufficiency

The best way to determine if you are drinking enough water is to monitor the color of your urine, which usually ranges from pale yellow to tea color due to a combination of urochrome pigment and the level of water in your body.

If your urine is often clear, this is a sure sign that you are drinking a lot of water in a short period of time. Also, the rate you use the bathroom, which is another sign. If you use the toilet more than usual, i.e. more than 6 to 8 times a day, and a maximum of 10 times, this means that there is an imbalance.

Nausea or vomiting

When you have too much water in your body, the kidneys can't remove the extra fluid, and it starts pooling, leading to nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Excess water in the body also causes headaches, as it causes low salt levels and swells cells.

This swelling also causes them to grow in size, and those in the brain press on the skull, causing a throbbing headache and may lead to brain weakness and difficulty breathing.

There is also discoloration of the hands, feet, and lips, muscle weakness that cramps easily, and fatigue.

This is a safe amount

It is reported that there are still no guidelines or confirmed results regarding the amount of water that the human body needs to drink daily.

According to studies, the quantity challenge depends on how much each body needs separately, as women from the age of 19 to 30 years should drink about 2.7 liters of water per day, while men of the same age need about 3.7 liters.

Also, thirst levels are not a standard for everyone, especially athletes, the elderly, and pregnant women.

It is also important to know that water is vital to cell function and life, so your body will alert you when it needs more, with the warning that excessive may lead to results that may cause death, so 8 cups a day is a good standard and a safe amount.
