The policeman who killed George Floyd will receive a million dollars in compensation

Media outlets revealed the amount of money that Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer, who killed George Floyd, will receive.

And reports revealed that the former police officer, Chauvin, the first accused in the incident of Floyd’s killing on May 25, will receive more than 1.5 million dollars in compensation and financial benefits for his retirement, amounting to one million dollars, even if he is convicted of Floyd’s murder.

That's because Minnesota, unlike some other states, does not allow the forfeiture of pensions to employees convicted of criminal offenses related to their work, according to CNN.

A Minnesota public servants association confirmed that Chauvin, who has worked in the department since 2001, would still be eligible to file his partially funded taxpayer pension as early as age 50, without specifying how much he would receive.

Employees who are terminated voluntarily, or for some reason, are entitled to future benefits unless they elect to recover all contributions made while they were employed, according to the association.

Chauvin would likely receive annual benefits of about $50 a year if he chose to start receiving them at age 55.

The total amount can be up to $1.5 million over 30 years, and it can be higher if he has received large amounts of overtime in past years.
