Queen Elizabeth celebrates her official birthday at Windsor Castle

Queen Elizabeth celebrates her official birthday at Windsor Castle

For the first time from Windsor Palace, Britain's Queen Elizabeth celebrates her official birthday today, due to the Corona pandemic, and therefore the protocol that takes place in front of Buckingham Palace, a tradition that began more than 270 years ago, was changed by The King George II, who celebrates her birthday on the second Saturday in June, although her real birth is April 21.

And the official royal account published pictures of the celebration inside the palace and commented: “The Queen is enjoying the military celebration today at Windsor Castle, which was held to celebrate Her Majesty’s official birthday.”

And the British newspaper, Daily Mail, reported that Windsor Castle will host the ceremony instead of the military parade known as “Trooping the Colour”, and it will also include a small number of Royal Guardsmen and military musicians who participate in a show created where social distancing is observed.

All preventive measures were taken to protect against the Corona virus, and to prevent the entry of anyone who was not quarantined with the Queen during the last period.

At 10 am today, The Piper to the Sovereign, Pipe Major Richard Grisdale along with Pipers across Scotland, played in memory of the Heroes of St Valéry. These soldiers remained in France following the successful mass evacuations at Dunkirk at the beginning of June 1940. The majority of the troops who remained in France were from the 51st Highland Division. They almost fought continuously for ten days before being surrounded by German forces at Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. Those who were not killed in the fierce fighting either died trying to escape, or were captured and sent to POW camps in Eastern Europe to endure appalling conditions. The pipers' march was played today in memory of these men.
