Be careful, pregnant woman..Antacid drugs cause asthma for your child

It seems that the postulates regarding antacid drugs, which are used by pregnant women in abundance, especially in the last months, have begun to change. Their babies may be more likely to develop asthma than babies of mothers who did not take these medications during pregnancy.
In a study published in the journal Pediatrix, researchers indicated that up to four out of five pregnant women suffer from acidity due to gastroesophageal reflux disease. So far, research has not provided a clear and specific picture of the safety of using drugs that treat this condition for pregnant women.

The researchers examined data from eight previously published studies in which a total of more than 1.6 million people participated. The study showed that in general, the risk of children developing asthma increased by 45% when mothers took antacid medications during pregnancy.
"All women should exercise caution when taking antacids during pregnancy," said Dr. Hua Haoshen, from Zhejiang University in China and lead author of the study.
Although such a small study might establish whether there is a direct relationship between asthma in children and mothers taking antacids during pregnancy, it is unlikely, for "ethical" reasons, that the drugs are administered to pregnant women that may harm their fetuses.
Instead, the study relied on information from government health records and a prescription database. The analysis included studies conducted on women from several countries.
The researchers did not find an absolute risk that children's asthma is linked to mothers taking these medications during pregnancy, and it was not clear how many children may develop asthma as a result of their mothers taking antacids during pregnancy versus developing it as a result of other causes.
In an article published in the study, the researchers say that the analysis did not know precisely whether the high risk of asthma in children comes directly from the antacids themselves, or from the pathological presentation that prompts pregnant women to take these drugs.
Among the flaws in the results of the review is that many of the studies included in the analysis followed children during the preschool years or early childhood, while some cases of asthma are not diagnosed until adolescence and adulthood.
