Burberry damages its products worth more than 36 million dollars

In news that will shock Burberry fans, the British group Burberry destroyed more than 28 million pounds ($36.4 million) worth of clothing and cosmetics last year to protect its brand, according to its annual report.
And destroyed cosmetics and perfumes worth nearly 10 million pounds ($13 million) in 2017, an increase of 50% two years ago, which the group attributed to its assignment of the cosmetic license to the American group “Coty”.

Product spoilage is common among major distributors and luxury brands alike, as they seek to protect their immediate ownership and combat counterfeiting, so they would rather dispose of their stock than sell it at a discount.
Burberry responded to the criticism by saying that it "cooperates with specialized companies that are able to recover the energy generated by this process." "When we have to destroy our products, we do so responsibly to take advantage of the waste and reduce it as much as possible," a spokesperson for the agency told AFP.
Tim Farron, in charge of the environment in the opposition Liberal Democratic Party in Britain, expressed his shock at these practices, saying that "recycling is better for the environment than burning products to generate energy."
Burberry recorded a slight increase in its gross profit for the period 2017-2018 as a result of a slump in sales that is expected to last for two years. The brand is trying to consolidate its position in the field of ultra-high fashion with the restructuring of its stores.
