You've taken a warm bath, drank hot milk, and tried several other methods to get you to sleep quickly, but you're still lying in bed with your eyes open, thinking about why sleep is not enough for you...it's insomnia.

And now an American scientist says he has found a way to treat your condition in 60 seconds without the need for sleeping drugs or dim lighting.

Scientist Andrew Weil describes his method called “4-7-8 breathing method” as a natural calming of the nervous system that helps the body get rid of stress.

All you have to do is expel all the air in your lungs through the mouth while making the "whoosh" sound. Close your mouth and take a deep breath through your nose while you count from one to four. Now stop breathing while you are counting from one to seven. Finally, expel the air from your stomach through your mouth while you count from one to eight as you make the “whoosh” sound again.

Repeat this process three times with the need to adhere to the breathing rates indicated in the numbers 4″-7-8″, according to the advice of Dr. Weil.

This method is based on an ancient Indian practice called pranayama, which means regulating breathing.

It is known that stress excites the nervous system, causing an imbalance that in turn leads to insomnia. Dr. Weil says that the "4-7-8" method makes you connected to your body and keeps you away from all daily thoughts that may disturb your sleep.

Dr. Weil recommends practicing this method twice a day for six to eight weeks until you master it, helping you fall asleep in just 60 seconds.
