Raya Abirached appointed as UN Goodwill Ambassador
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced the appointment of media figure, Raya Abi Rashid, as a regional goodwill ambassador for the Middle East and Africa.
Raya Abi Rashid is the first Arab woman to be appointed as a goodwill ambassador for UNHCR.
According to UNHCR’s statement on the appointment of Raya Abi Rashid as their ambassador, “Raya Abi Rashid is an advocate for and a strong voice for forcibly displaced people around the world. Prior to her appointment, she was working closely with UNHCR on many campaigns and appeals.
She has consistently advocated for refugee rights through her participation in UNHCR’s Ramadan and Winter campaigns, as well as in various emergency appeals.”

In turn, Raya Abi Rashid thanked UNHCR for its trust, and said: “I am deeply and humbly honored to be selected as UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassador. I do not underestimate the responsibility and the tasks ahead of me,” she said, expressing her hope that she can make a small difference in the lives of those in need across the region.
