Five practices that cause great damage to hair

When hair suffers from dryness and loss of vitality despite constant care, this means that its problem is not related to a lack of nutrition and hydration. In this case, the causes of this problem must be sought among the bad habits adopted in the daily routine. Learn about the most popular ones below:

Hair care experts point to 5 practices that should be completely avoided, as they expose the hair to great damage.

1- Not washing the hairbrush:

Regular brushing and disinfection is one of the essential steps in hair care. Dead cells, dust, remnants of styling products, and falling hair accumulate on it, and neglecting to clean it weekly exposes the scalp to sensitivity and skin diseases, including fungi, which is one of the causes of dandruff.

To avoid this problem, the remains of hair falling from the brush should be removed on a daily basis and soaked in a mixture of soapy water once a week for 20 minutes before rinsing well.

It is also recommended to soak it once every two weeks in a liter of water, to which a tablespoon of javel water is added before rubbing it with an old toothbrush to rid it of the accumulated residue, then rinse it well with water. These steps can be applied to brushes made of plastic, as for those made of wood and natural lint, it is recommended to wash them weekly with soap and water without soaking them to avoid exposing them to damage.

2- Neglecting the use of hair protection products from heat:

Heat protectant spray is an essential in the hair care routine when using electric straighteners. These tools expose the hair strands to damage and cause them to dry out and lose vitality, in addition to breaking them and split ends. Therefore, experts advise to avoid using any electric tools to dry or straighten the hair before applying an anti-heat lotion along its strands.

3- Using rubber bands made of latex:

Latex rubber bands cling to the hair, causing it to tangle and break, as well as weakening its structure. Therefore, it must be completely abandoned and replaced with rubber bands made of fabric or those coated with threads, which contributes to protecting the hair and not exposing it to damage.

4- Dry wet hair with a cotton towel:

If you think that the material from which the towel is made does not affect the hair, you are wrong. Experts point out that cotton materials are harsh on hair, although they absorb moisture well. As for non-cotton materials, they are not able to absorb water properly, so they recommend the use of a microfiber towel, as it is soft on the hair and absorbs moisture twice as much than other materials.

5- Wrap tufts of hair around the fingers:

This habit is widely spread and its danger lies in the lack of awareness of the reality of the problem it causes. The habit of wrapping the hair around the fingers leads to the breakage of its fibers, increasing its entanglement and brittleness. It also weakens the hair roots as a result of subjecting them to repeated pressures, which causes it to fall out in severe cases.

Quitting this habit is not easy, especially since it is involuntary and is often associated with anxiety and psychological stress, and it requires a lot of awareness and perseverance to get rid of it.
