Disney launches the first cruise ship .. capacity of 4 thousand passengers

The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek has unveiled the company's first new cruise ship in ten years, capping the first project presented by the former CEO of theme parks to the company's board of directors.

The launch of the 4000-passenger Disney Wish is a bright spot for Chapek, who became Disney's CEO in February 2020 before extending his contract for three years on Tuesday.
It took more than six years to build the 144-ton WISH, Chapek told attendees at the launch event, which included fireworks and appearances of Mickey, Minnie Mouse, Ant-Man, Chewbacca and other characters from the vast world of Disney.
"We combine these amazing characters and stories with amazing technology to create completely new experiences," Chapek said on board.
The cruise business is part of the Disney World-inspired theme parks, experiences and products unit that has rebounded from the coronavirus lockdown. Operating income was $4.2 billion in the first half of the 2022 fiscal year, compared to a loss of $535 million a year earlier.
Disney did not disclose how much the cruises contributed to profits, but Chapek said in November that the company had made "a double-digit net profit" given Disney's premium pricing.
Josh Damaro, head of the Disney Parks Unit, said Wish, the fifth ship in Disney's fleet, "begins the largest expansion in the history of Disney Cruise Line (Disney Cruises)." Disney will take delivery of two more ships by 2025.

The new ship sails as the sector seeks to lure customers back after a 15-month shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cruise Lines International Association predicts that it may take until the end of 2023 before passenger numbers will surpass 2019 levels when 29.7 million people sailed on cruise ships around the world.
The company will seek to attract customers to Disney Wish through what it is promoting as its first offshore theme park: Aquamos. The Disney-inspired cruise includes animated shorts of Mickey and other characters as guests float through 230-meter-long winding tubes suspended above the ship's upper decks.
As for dining experiences, families are placed inside the world of "Frozen" or "The Snow Queen" produced by Disney and the world of "Avengers" or "The Avengers" produced by Marvel. For adults, Disney created a "Star Wars"-inspired lounge.
The ship also includes an interactive experience that combines the physical and digital worlds, as the Disney Cruise Line app turns the user's phone into a virtual "periscope" to look at the constellations in the night sky (in the form of Pixar and Disney characters) and embark on adventures.
The interactive game represents a step towards Chapek's goal of solidifying the company's presence in the metaphysics world. The CEO called for virtual experiences as a way to keep customers connected to Disney characters and stories between movie releases and theme park visits.
Disney Wish takes off on its maiden flight on July 14 from Port Canaveral, Florida.
