A message from a mother who lost her child crying millions.. I will always love you

In a minute everything happened quickly. Sarah was sitting with her child, Isaac, having dinner and singing children's songs, before her life was turned upside down as if she was in a Hollywood movie, participating in one of its scenes.

A mother bereaved of her child

The story began at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. on the fourth of last August, when a massive explosion rang out in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, targeting the port, leaving hundreds dead and thousands wounded.

Among the victims of that tragic day was child Isaac, son of Sarah Copeland, a UN staff member working on gender issues and women's rights UNESCWA in Australia, New York and Beirut.

experience sadness

Five months after the loss of her liver, Sarah announced on her Twitter page that she will share with her followers her experience of sadness and shock, perhaps contributing to the healing of the wounds of her heart that burned on her lonely, and gradually awakening from the nightmare of the explosion after she was living a beautiful dream with her child, as she says.

Sarah, the mother, still refuses to comprehend what happened to her on the fourth of last August, as she became part of this tragic Lebanese history after losing her eighteen-month-old child. She lives in a constant state of cognitive dissonance.

The day I lost everything

She told Al Arabiya.net, "The fourth of August for me means the day my life changed forever, the day I lost everything. It is a day that naturally began and ended in the worst possible way with the death of my dearest son Isaac. The events of August 4 will be with me forever. The devastation I saw and heard still haunts me. My mind still cannot comprehend the events of that day, or the death of my son.”

Sarah began writing about Isaac's death as a way to process and organize her thoughts, she says, noting that “what we lived is so far beyond the realm of imagination that I still struggle to understand it. Sadness also brings with it many different emotions such as anger, guilt and despair.”

Writing helped me

As she explained, “Writing helps me deal with these different emotions. It can also have a greater impact, helping people not to “forget” what happened in Beirut on the XNUMXth of August, and reminding them that there are human faces behind the tragedy.

From here, Sarah considers, “With the spread of the Corona epidemic between countries in addition to other global events, international attention has been absent from Lebanon, but people are still suffering from what happened at a time when justice was not achieved. So, writing about my experience and what happened to my son can help draw attention back to Beirut.”

Disappointing investigations

In addition, she added: “Although the Beirut explosion, which is the largest non-nuclear explosion in history, and which requires those responsible to be held accountable, the investigations into it so far have been very disappointing.

And she continued, "The Lebanese authorities initially said that the investigation would take five days, but after more than five months no result has been reached, and instead we see the authorities trying to limit the scope of the investigation and avoid accountability."

She also emphasized that “the delay in the investigations has enormous repercussions that go beyond the clear need for justice. For example, insurance companies will not make any payments until the results of the official investigation are revealed, and this means that many people who have lost their homes and property are unable to receive any compensation from insurance companies.”

Independent and transparent investigation

Accordingly, Sarah revealed, "She is working with a group of victims' families who are calling for an independent, impartial and transparent investigation to best ensure justice for the victims."

In her opinion, who is responsible for the August XNUMX tragedy, said, "I do not want to speculate who is responsible exactly. An independent, impartial and transparent investigation is enough to determine who is responsible, but it is clear that the explosion was the result of malicious corruption and extreme negligence." It is disgraceful for ammonium nitrate to remain in the port of Beirut for seven years, and to be stored in an indiscriminate manner at a time when ministers and officials were aware of its existence.”

She wondered, "When a fire broke out in a warehouse in the port, why weren't the people of Beirut alerted to stay away from the windows?" .

She added, "Many lives could have been saved, including the life of my son Isaac, had people been warned of the dangers of what was going on in the port."

I will always love you..

The mother, shocked so far, concluded her speech with a letter to her son Isaac, “Every day that passes, I will continue to love you with every fiber of my being and miss you every minute. Sorry I couldn't protect you, but I will continue to fight for justice to ensure that those who took your life are held accountable.”
