A gang formation in Britain managed to steal a diamond-encrusted crown valued at several million pounds.

International news sites were abuzz with the news that the crown of Portland was stolen from its headquarters in one of the royal centers in Nottinghamshire, England

This tiara was designed in 1902 by Cartier and is one of the most precious royal tiaras because it was made of gold, silver and diamonds. This tiara was intended to be worn by Princess Winfrid, Duchess of Portland, for the enthronement ceremony of King Edward VIII,

One expert in precious art expressed fears that the gang would remove the diamonds that set the crown and sell them separately.

Richard Edgecombe, a specialist in antique jewellery at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, said the crown was "one of the greatest masterpieces ever made in British history".

James Lewis of Bamford Auctions added that the crown was "made in an era when money was no problem", which explains the extravagance of its manufacture.

A diamond necklace made when the crown was redesigned was also stolen during the attack.

These and other valuables, including oil paintings, were kept in a county building that had been inhabited by the Dukes of Portland County for 400 years.
