Since the devastating earthquake hit the Turkish and Syrian lands, killing more than 50 people between the two countries, in addition to tens of thousands of homeless people, there has been much talk and questions about the possibility of predicting earthquakes, and are there any signs that can determine that an earthquake will strike a specific area.

According to eyewitnesses, seconds before the earthquake occurred in Turkey and Syria, a mysterious glow similar to the aurora borealis was observed in the sky over the fault site.

However, scientists assert that this “mysterious glow” has a scientific explanation, which they call “earthquake lights”, but they do not know much about it, as until recently it was known only through verbal descriptions, according to what was reported by the “Vesti” website. ru” Russian.

Geophysicists explain this phenomenon by saying that the energy of the earthquake affects the electromagnetic field. A sharp jump in electromagnetic field strength just before an earthquake causes a glow a few kilometers above the Earth's surface.

According to scientist Sergey Bulents, chief researcher at the Institute for Space Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, electrons emit a wave of light in the atmosphere. The other factor is the effect of air.

Scientists wanted to use these glows to predict earthquakes, but since they occur immediately before an earthquake, they do not help prepare for a natural disaster. However, prediction is possible on the basis of analyzing the physical processes that generate these glows.

It should be noted that Polinets and his scientific team designed a model for the interaction of the lithosphere, atmosphere and ionosphere that allows predicting earthquakes by increasing the concentration of radon gas, abnormal temperatures and a sharp decrease in humidity a few hours before the onset of earthquakes.
