Dermatologists accuse some of the ingredients that are included in the formulation of cosmetic care products of being harmful to oily skin, which is known to enlarge its pores and increase its sebum secretions. Here are 3 ingredients that are not suitable for oily skin and 3 common mistakes when taking care of it.

The factors that cause oily skin are many, including: genetics, psychological stress, unbalanced diet, hormonal disorders, pollution, exposure to the sun, but also the use of inappropriate care products.

Dermatologists indicate that some steps can contribute to avoiding aggravation of the oily skin situation, most notably: staying away from some ingredients that are usually available in care products, which cause an imbalance in the water-lipid barrier of the skin, making it more greasy. Learn about 3 of these ingredients.

1- Benzoyl Peroxide:

It is one of the commonly used ingredients in pimples and acne products due to its antibacterial action. This means that it has a direct effect on acne, but it also causes dryness of the treated area, which, when used extensively, for a long time, and without adherence to the recommended amount can be harsh on the skin, which will increase its sebum secretions to protect itself from drying out.

2- Mineral oils:

These oils are completely different from vegetable oils, as they result from a mixture obtained by distilling flammable materials such as oil and coal. The most famous of them are Vaseline and Paraffin. These oils can increase the problems of oily skin as it prevents it from trying to adapt to its environment.

Experts recommend using gentle products on oily skin, especially when the weather is hot, and avoiding another ingredient known as lanolin, a type of wax found in sheep's wool, which is included in the composition of some skin care products.

3- Alcohol:

Skin cleansing products usually contain a percentage of alcohol, which is known to cause the loss of natural moisture from the skin. Therefore, it is recommended to use an alcohol-free cleanser and tonic on oily skin to help control its sebum secretions.

3 mistakes we make when taking care of oily skin:

Some of the steps that we adopt in the cosmetic care routine can harm oily skin:

• Using harsh cleaning products:
The use of harsh cleansing products affects the balance of the skin, causing an excess of sebum secretions. Oily skin needs cleaning products with a soft composition. As for peeling, it can be used once a week, avoiding acne-affected areas if they are present. This peeling is also characterized by a soft composition, and the purpose of its use is to remove blackheads and clean pores in depth.

• Misuse of care products:
Oily skin needs a care routine that respects its nature, and cleaning it is the main daily step in this routine as it rids it of the accumulated dust, dead cells, sebum secretions, and impurities that accumulate in its pores, which protects it from pimples and tartars. It is recommended to use cleansing products that respect the nature of this skin and do not cause it to dry out or clog its pores.

• Not getting enough moisture:
Some people think that oily skin does not need moisturizing, but in fact it needs moisturizing ingredients to meet its needs without causing it to shine. It is worth noting that all skin types need nourishment and hydration to maintain a healthy appearance and to be protected from external aggressions. Neglecting the composition of oily skin exposes it to excessive sebum secretions and exacerbates its problems.
