The new Johnny Depp movie is without financial support and will only be shown in a country

International news agencies reported that Johnny Depp is about to return to the big screen in his first role since winning the defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard in the French movie La Favourite, according to Marca.

The film is set to be Depp's big comeback to acting, who hasn't appeared in a movie since 2020. It comes after Depp, 59, previously said on multiple occasions that he feels betrayed by Hollywod Studios and reaffirms that position in His last project.

The latest reports have confirmed that Depp's La Favourite is not financially supported by Netflix but has been licensed to stream on Netflix in France only. An insider also revealed that Netflix has since made it clear that it has not funded the film, nor does it hold the rights to the film outside of France.

Filming for the French movie is set to begin in France this summer, and Netflix now has the streaming rights to La Favourite 15 months after its cinematic release. In the film, Depp portrays the French King Louis XV, the predecessor of the Louis XVI era that led to the French Revolution.

La Favourite, directed by Mayoin Le Biscu, will be released to French audiences in theaters sometime during 2023. Le Bisko will also play Madame de Barry, the famous sweetheart of King Louis XV.
