Lack of sleep damages the eyes and causes neurological deficits

Disadvantages of lack of sleep

Lack of sleep is followed by a lot of stress and physical and psychological fatigue, but did you know that it also affects the health of the eye and vision and causes nervous disability!!!
A new study has found that certain eye movements may be damaged when a person does not get enough sleep.

The research team from the National Aeronautics and Space Research Center and Ames Center in California, said that the results show the need to "measure the neurological deficit" caused by sleep deprivation, to prevent workers and employees from committing serious accidents, according to what was published by the "Daily Mail".

It has been shown that lack of sleep increases the risk of developing many diseases health problems, Including obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes.

In the new study, published in the Journal of Physiology, researchers studied 12 participants who slept an average of 8.5 hours per night for two weeks.

At the end of the two weeks, the participants spent about 28 hours awake in the Fatigue Countermeasures lab. The researchers measured continuous eye tracking movements and rapid scanning movements.

They found that both movements were inconsistent, and that participants had trouble with the speed and direction of the eye.

The team says the findings have important implications for those who work in jobs that require visual and motor coordination, including pilots, surgeons or military service members.

"There are important safety implications for workers who may perform tasks that require precise visual coordination of a person's actions, when sleep deprived or during night shifts," said lead author Lee Stone, a research psychologist at NASA Ames.

Deprivation of sleep at night The deprivation of sleep at night, or what is known as insomnia, is a problem for many people, and these suffer either from their inability to sleep during the night, or from the difficulty of falling asleep enough to restore the body's balance for the beginning of a new day with vigor and vitality. They may also face the problem of waking up very early and not being able to go back to sleep again, which leads to a decrease in the body's vital energy and turbulence, as well as the weakening of the health status of the person and his work performance slows down.

The hours of sleep that the body needs differ from one person to another, so there are no official figures about a specific number of hours, but the normal rate that an adult needs ranges from 7-9 hours every night, while young children and infants may need more than that. As for the elderly, they may need less than this average per day. In the event of sleep deprivation for several days or weeks, then insomnia is a temporary condition, and sometimes if it continues for several months or years, it becomes a chronic condition resulting from other diseases or a sign of an illness of the individual.
