Corona and the secret of sterilization with alcohol

With the spread of the emerging corona virus, cleaning and sterilization has become a daily habit that accompanies humanity all over the world, the World Health Organization recommended the use of soap and water as the first choice to eliminate viruses and germs, and alcohol comes in second place with a concentration of 70%

But some didn't stop or question the exact reason behind the 70%, and perhaps many people thought that getting a higher alcohol concentration would bring better results or more protection.

The highest concentration is not the strongest

However, many experts have indicated that 70% alcohol is better in sterilization, because it contains a greater amount of water, which helps to dissolve slowly, and thus achieves a longer period to penetrate cells and kill bacteria, germs and viruses, according to a report published by WebMD.

They also indicated that the strength of sterilizers with concentrations higher than 80 to 85%, drops conclusively, explaining that higher concentrations are more suitable for cleaning uses rather than sterilization and disinfection.
