How to protect your privacy on Facebook? And prevent Facebook from exploiting you?

According to the Washington Post, the majority of users do not read all of the updated data policies, which are recently sent to an email inbox. Some may have never looked for their privacy settings and automatically dealt with the default settings. This is exactly what Facebook, Google and other technology and social media giants rely on.
Websites, social media platforms, and major search engines promote the saying that “users are in control” of their personal data, but they know that most users won't change settings they don't know are exploiting them without their knowledge or benefit.

For example, “Facebook” displays to the public your list of friends and all the pages you follow, and allows marketers and advertising companies to use your name in their ads on “Facebook”.

In the coming weeks, Facebook will write to members' pages inviting them to review some settings, according to the newspaper's report. This invitation will not change your default settings, but it may be a good reminder that you should change them, by clicking on Data management settings.

Facebook is rolling out new privacy settings to its smartphone apps, and they may not have been sent to you yet. However, it's settings to change the location of some controls on your phone.

How can you protect your identity?
• Anyone can see all your Facebook friends, and all the pages you follow. This includes employers, stalkers, identity thieves, and possibly your family members.
To solve that problem:

• You will find in the “Facebook” application on your phone, which has 3 lines, click on it and then go to settings and privacy, click on settings, then on privacy settings. Then switch who can see your friends list from Public to Friends, or preferably just me.

• Repeat the same steps, on the same page, to make a separate setting for who can see the people, Pages, and Lists you follow.
Benefit:
Get rid of strangers who are spying on you or seeking to reveal your interests.

• Facebook announces to everyone what you do, because when people tag your name in a photo or post, it automatically appears on your Facebook News Feed.

To put an end to this:
• Within the "Facebook" applications, specifically under the "Settings and Privacy" item, you will find the option to access the settings, then "Diary and Bookmarks". Click the "Open" button to review the posts you've flagged before the post appears on your Facebook timeline.
Benefit:

• You will put an end to allowing others to post on your behalf or at least you will have to agree to every post.

Track your face in photos and videos
• Facebook automatically gets the right to track your face and, by default, monitors all the photos and videos you share, to create digital facial identifications unless you decide to end it.
Simply you can by:

• “Facebook” applications, under the “Settings and Privacy” section, then go to Settings, then choose “Face Recognition”. Click (No) under “Do you want them to be able to recognize you in photos and videos?”

Benefit:
Facebook will stop tagging you in photos, and will alert you to get ready when someone else posts a photo of you.
3 settings for ads

Turn off these three settings that allow Facebook advertisers to use more data to target you personally.
Not all of this data and facilities are given to Facebook advertisers, and remember that the value of each member of the social networking site “Facebook” in North America was $82 in advertising on “Facebook” during 2017.

• Advertisers can use very personal data about you to target you, which makes Facebook ads scarier than you can imagine.

• Open the “Settings and Privacy” application menu, click on Settings, then choose Advertising Preferences. Then press the button to open the “Your Information” section. There, turn off ads according to the status of your relationship status, employer, job title, and education.
Still on the Ad Preferences page, scroll down to Ad Settings and go to Ads not allowed, according to data from partners, and Ads based on your activity on Facebook Products, which you see elsewhere.
Benefit:

• Get rid of more “relevant” ads, which are more of a problem for advertisers than they are for you.
Free ads star

• You may not know that you are starring in Facebook ads. And you don't get paid in return, just by clicking the "like" button on the page, you give Facebook advertisers permission to use your name in the ads they show your friends - and then you can't get even a dime.
• Through your phone under “Settings” and “Privacy”, then “Settings”, then “Advertising Preferences”, click “Ad Settings” and go to “Nobody” selection for ads that include your social activities.

Benefit:
• Preventing a company that does not care about your rights from using your name in advertising for products without your knowledge.
