The disappointing news about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine against the Corona virus continues, as the drug regulator in Europe announced that it has added a rare neurological disorder known as “Guillain-Barré syndrome” as a possible side effect to the vaccine.

Yesterday, Thursday, the European Union Medicines Control Authority said that it had evaluated the available data, noting that the Safety Committee had concluded that there was a possible relationship between the vaccine and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

On July 13, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned of an increased risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome in people who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

It also added that 100 people developed the syndrome out of about 12.5 million people who received this single-dose vaccine.

She explained at the time that out of these 95 patients, one died and XNUMX were hospitalized for treatment due to the seriousness of their condition.

In contrast, Johnson & Johnson said in a statement that "the chances of this happening are extremely low, and the rate of reported cases only exceeds the base rate for the general population by a small margin."

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a disease of the peripheral nerves that gradually weakens or even paralyzes them.

Paralysis often begins in the legs and sometimes goes up to the breathing muscles and then the nerves of the head and neck, and annually this disease affects between three thousand and six thousand people in the United States.
